If you're totally locked out of Windows 8.1 because your administrator account is locked out, disabled or you forgot the password, you've come to the right place. Simply boot your laptop from WindowsUnlocker Live CD/USB and it allows you to unlock Windows 8.1 local/Microsoft account easily!
WindowsUnlocker is a bootable utility that could be used to reset forgotten Windows password, unlock your locked-out or disabled Windows account, and promote a standard/limited account to administrator. In this guide I'm going to show you how easy it is to unlock Windows 8.1 laptop if you've been locked out.
1 Create A WindowsUnlocker Live CD/USB
- Click here to download and save the WindowsUnlocker self-extracting Zip file to an alternative computer, then extract the ISO image file: pcunlocker.iso from it.
-
Burn the ISO image file to a blank CD or USB flash drive using the freeware ISO2Disc. If you use a USB flash drive, make sure you choose the GPT partition style because most Windows 8.1 computers come with UEFI firmware.
2 Unlock Windows 8.1 Administrator Password
- Insert that freshly burned CD or USB drive into your affected Windows 8.1 laptop and fire it up.
We need to boot from the CD or USB drive. If your laptop ignores the CD / USB drive and boots to Windows 8.1 login screen, restart and press F2, F11, F12, ESC or DEL to enter the BIOS and change the boot order. You'll know you got it right when you see the following screen:
- Select the administrator account and then click the Reset Password button. The program will remove your forgotten Windows 8.1 password and also unlock/enable the administrator account if your account has been locked out or disabled.
- Click the Restart button and remove the CD or USB drive. The computer should then boot into Windows 8.1 and, if everything worked, you shouldn't be prompted for a password.
So this is how can you unlock Windows 8.1 local administrator account. But what to do if you're locked out of Windows 8.1 Microsoft account? There's a local account on the computer that's been linked to your Microsoft account, just choose the associated local account to proceed, WindowsUnlocker will reset your Microsoft account password locally.
